The camps are situated between latitudes 55o and 57o in the Lake Cambrian area and around the Caniapiscau River and Wakuach Lake, directly North of Schefferville this is home of the number 1 caribou in Boone and Crockett, the number one Safari Club International, and home of number 1-2-3-4-5 of Pope & Young.

All these big game awards are coming out of Shefferville, where 80% of the caribou kill in Notern Quebec occurs! Limestone falls, on the Caniapiscau River is the area where 10,000 caribous drowned in 1984. While the tragedy had little bearing on the Ungava caribou herd (which numbering at some 800,000 heads, is the biggest herd in the world - the Quebec-Labrador herd continues to mushrroom at a rate of 15 percent a year) it does point out that all camps around the Caniapiscau River are strategically located along one of the major migration routes used by the herd to travel from summering to rutting grounds.
