Young's Wilderness Camp remote five acre island fishing and hunting camp sits directly on the craggy blue shores of Stevens Bay, Lake of the Woods, Ontario, Canada; a five-mile extension of the legendary Sabaskong Bay.
There are four major North American flyways and the eastern shoreline of Lake of the Woods is located in the heart of the longest migration route of any flyway in the Western hemisphere. The Mississippi flyway’s Northern-most point is the arctic coast of Alaska and its Southern-most point ends in Argentina.
Young's Wilderness Camp is situated in the perfect spot for Northwestern Ontario duck hunting: Stevens Bay - a four-and-a-half mile finger of Sabaskong Bay on the East shore of Lake of the Woods. Stevens Bay, and neighboring Stony Portage Bay, is composed of countless small back bays and ponds sufficiently shallow to provide the ideal environment for habitat. The area yields the greatest concentration of wild rice anywhere in Northwest Ontario making it the ideal stop-over feeding point for migrating ducks.
What makes Young’s Camp so unique is we are the only hunting camp on Steven’s Bay or Stony Portage Bay. We are located on our own five acre island, a short five-minute boat ride from our private mainland parking area and boat launch five miles north of Nestor Falls. There is no public access to Stevens Bay or Stony Portage Bay other than by a 22 mile boat ride from Nestor Falls.
It is the breath-taking beauty of the islands and mainland that also make it an ideal hunting destination. They are heavily wooded and feature significant habitat so hunters don’t need artificial duck blinds. Just lay out a spread of decoys and step back into the cover. Best of all, there are numerous land mass points that provide excellent pass shooting without decoys. While we have guides available, there are over a dozen prime hunting blinds within five minutes of the camp. We would be happy to take you around and show them to you if you prefer.
The captivating waters of Stevens Bay have become some of the most productive waters in the Canadian wild. Weedy bays, drop off’s, calm coves and hidden bays offer a perfect mixture of fishing wishes come true to serious anglers of all ages.
Northern Pike lurk weed beds, awaiting a perfect cast to plop. Scrappy Smallmouth Bass hug rubble-rocked drop-offs, while wandering Walleyes watch tackle box creations bounce alongside hungry gills.
Musky maniacs have a Mecca of opportunity to catch one, perhaps that 55 plus incher who hates anglers more than any landing net or boat. Nighttime casts often manage to thin the Crappie crop around our well-lit docks, and flickering campfire chatter boasts tall tales of triumph mixed with painful agonies of defeat.
