Plummers Lodges

Being on the northern tip of the Central and Mississippi flyways, the birds have sustained little to no hunting pressure resulting in excellent decoy hunting.

The majority of our hunting will be out of willow blinds and natural cover in stubble fields. This allows for comfortable, "safe" shooting lanes. For those that are accustomed to hunting over water, we will set up on ponds for an evening of duck: hunting, but as a rule both ducks and geese will be taken during the morning hunts. Greater Canada's, Lesser Canada's, Speckled, Snow (Ross) and the odd Blue, along with Mallard, Teal, Pintail, and Canvasback are all readily found in our hunting areas.

Your hunting adventure will really begin the night before when your guide is in the field scouting for the morning hunt. This is when we will spot locations for your next several days of good hunting. This will leave the birds undisturbed for several days before we set our decoys out. Each location is watched daily to pattern the birds flight, final approach, and the prominent feeding areas in the fields resulting in proper decoy and blind placement. Our area has no pressure from other outfitters, and local hunting pressure is minimal, resulting in excellent field shooting. Being on the northern tip of the flyway, the birds have sustained little to no hunting pressure. This means excellent up close shooting (20 - 40 yards).

A group size of between 4 to 6 hunters is ideal for this location.. Smaller groups may be combined at our discretion. The typical spread for Canada's is 5 - 6 doz. magnum and super magnum shell decoys. As the birds become decoy shy later in the season, we will increase the decoy spread to 10 - 12 doz. By combining flyers and wind-socks to the spread when required we will imitate life within the spread resulting in dynamite decoy action.

During the early part of the season you will find Snow Geese feeding along side the Canadas, and we set the decoys according to the feeding habits at the time. As you are already quite aware calling is crucial to a successful hunt and you are encouraged be involved with the calling. Not only does this help bring the birds into range but gives you more direct involvement in the hunt.

During the morning goose hunt, ducks as a rule arrive first and we will take them until evidence of geese can be heard or seen in the immediate area. If the guides spot a fantastic morning duck shoot we will ask if your group would be willing to hunt them first thing. If not, we will set-up for an evening field shoot.

For those of you who enjoy hunting over water with your dogs, there is excellent puddle shooting giving your dog a rewarding workout. Ducks tend to feed the same fields whether disturbed or not allowing two or three field shoots in each location.

We will use Final Approach Pro Guide Concealment Blinds or willow blinds that provide safe comfortable shooting opportunities. The main staging area for migrating geese in Saskatchewan lies on North Saskatchewan River. Our base camp is only a few miles away and this is where the Greater and lesser Canadas roost. For ducks, snows, and speckled bellies we have a large Ducks Unlimited wetland within a mile of our camp. Redberry lake, which is a famous pelican sanctuary, harbours literally thousands upon thousands of geese and ducks. This sanctuary is in the heart of our hunting zone.

Most morning hunts will end close to noon each day after which you will be taken back to camp where you can enjoy a relaxing meal while your birds are being processed and frozen for the trip home. We will return to the field for an evening duck hunt or upland game shoot at your discretion, around 3:00 P.M. giving you a few hours rest in between hunts. A hardy dinner of your choice and some good fellowship awaits you back at the camp at the end of the day.
