Widrig Outfitters is owned and operated by Yukoners, Chris and Vanessa Widrig. Outfitter Chris Widrig has been in the guiding business for 30 years. He received his first guides license from the late outfitter, George Dalziel, in 1973. As with most young guides he started at the bottom, wrangling horses and learning from those with more experience. For many seasons in Northern British Columbia he polished his guiding skills, ran a trap line, cared for horses in the winter, and became a proficient bush pilot with over 4000 hours flying time. In 1986, he purchased his own outfitting concession in a remote corner of the Yukon Territory.
Location - Yukon Outfitting area #6. Located in the Northeastern Yukon along the border of the N.W.T. The Outfiting concession is almost 4000 square miles of completely isolated, rugged, and scenic mountains.
For the past sixteen seasons Chris has been fully dedicated to providing hunters with a first class outfitting service. The basic business philosophy of Widrig Outfitters 97 Ltd. is founded on two basic principles. One is that sound wildlife management practices must be followed to maximize the numbers and the trophy quality of large game animals. Extensive wildlife surveys are flown throughout the concession area before each season by the outfitter. Population trends and trophy quality of game species are evaluated and the hunting season planned accordingly. The second basic business principle of this company is to provide a professional, personal, guiding service to hunters from around the world. This begins by sending all hunters who contact us, as much pre hunt information as possible about the whole operation. Those who book a hunt are kept informed about all the necessary details about the trip. Finally, our team of guides are well prepared and will do their best to fulfill the hunters expectations in the field.
Widrig Outfitters 97 Ltd. provides all equipment, horses, shelter, professional guides, transportation, advice, and all local logistical support to non-resident hunters who want to hunt in our outfitting concession. We provide a recreational service by utilizing the remote, pristine wilderness and wildlife resources of the concession area in a sustainable manner. The primary species hunted are moose, dall sheep, and caribou. Other species sought are grizzly, wolf, black bear, and wolverine. Fishing for lake trout and greyling are offered as part of our trip package.
Widrig Outfitters have two major base camp complexes, at Bonnet Plume and Goz Lake. Base camps have cabins, hot shower facilities, satellite telephone communications, a company super cub aircraft, and a full time cook. All hunts except spring grizzly are by horseback.
