Plummers Lodges

We are located on the famous and beautiful Spanish River which cuts through the Northern Ontario Wilderness, creating perfect habitat for large populations of Walleye, Muskie, Northern Pike, Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass. Five minutes by boat and you are at Lake Huron and the North Channel where Rainbow Trout (Steelhead) and Lake Trout are caught all Summer with big populations of Coho and Chinook (King) Salmon coming in late Summer and early Fall.

Emerald colored water and Canadian Shield rock form hundreds of islands at the mouth of the river. The beauty of the North Channel will capture your heart and get you excited about the fishing potential. Where the river is wide, weedy areas hold large Muskie, Northern Pike and Largemouth Bass while the rocky points and drop-offs hold great numbers of trophy Walleye and Smallmouth Bass.

Vance's Resort offers a screened-in waterfront gazebo with a propane barbecue for get-togethers and sharing the day's stories. Sore muscles from wrestling that Muskie? A toasty sauna will ease your troubles away. Later, enjoy the friendly camaraderie around a campfire.

Our camp in newer then most and maintained to a very high standard. Cabins, boats and motors are all in perfect condition. You can bring your own boat as well. Fishing is great all year but some species bite better then other some parts of the year.

Walleye - The Spanish River is well known for not only having high populations of Walleye but big trophy Walleye. Our location is remote and far enough north that pollution or over-fishing is not a factor. But, we are far enough south that we have a long growing season which has resulted in a river with some of the biggest Walleyes in the World. The thousands of shoals, islands and high bait forage also contribute to the incredible Walleye fishing.

Pike & Muskie - The Spanish River has incredible Northern Pike fishing. Lots of weedy bays and drop-offs create an awesome environment for pike to grow big. Over 15 pound Northern Pike are common with lots of 20 pounders being caught. In 1994, the MNR started stocking Muskie in the river. Now these Muskie are in the 20 pound range and still growing.

Smallmouth & Largemouth Bass - There are lots of shallow weedy areas and patches of Lily Pads where you will find all kinds of Largemouth Bass. Due to the cooler water, our bass don't have the parasites that bass down south have thus Ontario bass are great eating. The rocky Canadian Shield which forms most of our lakes and rivers, also creates perfect environment for big trophy Smallmouth Bass. They are common in the 2 to 4 pound range with many 6 and 7 pound trophies being caught.

Rainbow & Lake Trout - Off the mouth of the Spanish River in the deeper water, there is excellent Rainbow & Lake Trout fishing all year. Rainbow trout average about 8 pounds with trophies up in the 15 pound-plus range being caught. Lake Trout can also reach great sizes up to 30 pounds. Some Splake are being caught but not as common.

Coho & Chinook Salmon - In late summer and early Fall, great numbers of Chinook (King) and Coho Salmon start staging at the mouth of the Spanish River. Coming from the deep water of Lake Huron, the salmon are a nice color and great for eating. Later they go up the river to spawn. Coho can reach up to 20 pounds while the Chinooks can go over 40 pounds.
