As much wilderness as a fly-in resort, Spruce Island Camp has the advantage of also being accessible by boat. Travel over the vast Lake of the Woods and into numberless bays and through thousands of islands can be accomplished without portages or seaplanes. Our resort is approximately 45 miles south of Kenora, 30 miles northwest of Morson, 25 miles east of Northwest Angle and 50 miles west of Sioux Narrows and Nestor Falls. You'll leave roads and the hustle of civilization far behind when you visit us here.
Guests can be picked up by camp launch in Morson, Ontario or Kenora, Ontario. You can also bring in your own boat and either navigate the waters or follow our boat in if we are picking up other guests. We do rent 16' fishing boats with 20 hp motors if you do not have your own boat.
Morson, Ontario is located approximately 30 miles from Baudette, MN on Hwy 621. Kenora, Ontario is at the north end of Lake of the Woods and is about an hour boat trip to camp. You can also fly to International Falls, MN via Northwest Airlink and take a cab/van to Morson (about 90 miles).
Spruce Island Camp has been in operation since 1967. It has been continually owned and managed by members of the George Mead family. Current owners and managers are Harv & Janna Mead Sadlovsky. Our season runs from May through October each year. We continually strive to upgrade our cabins and facilities for your enjoyment, comfort and convenience.
Fishing in the quiet bays near camp you will find walleye, northern, smallmouth bass and trophy muskies. A shorelunch featuring freshly caught fish could be one of the highlights of your trip. Your fish will be kept, without charge, in our big freezer until your departure.
Hunting is also available for non-residents and residents. Deer, fall bear hunt and moose are found on the Aulneau Peninsula (primitive weapons only). The surrounding islands are available for hunting with rifles to non-residents and resident hunters. Duck and grouse hunting are also available. Contact us for the current regulations regarding hunting and firearms in Canada.
Spruce Island offers a modified American plan during the months of May, June and September where a four course dinner will be served in the main lodge. At the main lodge you will also find all the comforts of home, satellite T.V, internet, radio phone, bait, ice, tackle, souvenirs and fishing and hunting licensees.
Our rental boats consist of standard 16ft aluminum with swivel seats and 25hp Mercury motors. We also offer deluxe fishing boats. We have two 16ft Starcraft D-Stars, with 40hp four stroke Mercury motors, and a Lund Explorer, with a 50hp four stroke Mercury. All three deluxe fishing boats come with trolling motor, battery, depth finder, live well, carpeted bottoms and rod storage.
