The setting for South Bay Lodge is northwest Ontario, Canada on Confederation Lake. At 14,000 acres, Confederation Lake has hundreds of miles of secluded shoreline, with scores of islands and bays. It's a centrally located spot that offers perhaps the finest Northern Pike and Lake Trout opportunity in the province.
Many years ago, the property was known as South Bay Trading Post, and it served the men who worked nearby gold, copper and zinc mines. Now it's called South Bay Lodge on Confederation Lake and we offer a unique combination of quality fishing, solitude and privacy usually only possible at a fly-in wilderness lodge, but South Bay Lodge has drive-to convenience.
In addition to the exceptional fishing on Confederation Lake, South Bay Lodge can provide you with a good chance to haul in trophy Walleye on any of the five portage lakes where we have exclusive rights. On these lakes, you'll fish all day and probably never see another human being aside from the other guys in your boat.
In between casts, some people (though not real fisherman) want to eat. If you can drag yourself away from your gear, you'll find the food at South Bay Lodge to be outstanding. Served by our friendly staff in the family dining room, breakfast and super are home-cooked every day. You'll find our portions to be appropriately generous for hungry fisher-folk and their families. Lunch is usually taken on the lake. You can enjoy thick, hearty sandwiches or take in a "shore lunch": all the fixin's to prepare your freshly filleted catch of the morning, right at lakeside.
The accommodations at South Bay Lodge are relaxed and cozy, offering rustic log cabins nestled among stands of native pine and birch trees. Cabin sizes range from 2 to 8 beds -- there's even a family rate for mom, dad, and the kids. You'll be very comfortable when it comes time to rest: all our cabins have showers, flush toilets, hot and cold running water, electric lights and heat. And for a special experience, take in the warmth and aroma of our wood-fired sauna while you relax with friends.
South Bay Lodge also features a wide variety of wildlife, some of which actually inhabit the resort grounds. The loons, wild grouse, snowshoe rabbits, and whiskey jacks will sometimes take food directly from your hand. If you yearn for somewhat more challenging wildlife experience, take in the Autumn Moose Hunt. But make your reservations early because moose tags are always in high demand.
