Plummers Lodges

The Rich Family came to Montana in 1866 - We have made our living in the outdoors every since - and enjoy sharing our rural lifestyle with others. Our guests have come from all across North America and several foreign countries - with many returning year after year.

The Rich Family & Crew welcomes you to visit the Rich Ranch in one of the most spectacular settings in Montana. Since it's discovery by Lewis & Clark, the Blackfoot/Clearwater Valley has been a destination for travelers seeking outdoor adventure and solitude.

Our Wilderness Camp in Leota Park (elevation 6000 ft) is 10 miles by horse from the nearest road by way of Pyramid Pass. We hunt for Elk, Mule Deer, and Black Bear. Grouse hunting and fishing offer a change. These hunts include one day going to camp, one day coming out and the remainder hunting. We are located on Youngs Creek, a major tributary of the South Fork of the Flathead River in the Bob Marshall Wiliderness. The actual area we hunt is some 10 miles in diameter and takes in the headwaters of the 5 small streams and numerous lakes in alpine basins that make up the head of Youngs Creek. Altitude varies from 5000' to 8500'. Cover varies from open meadows and high open alpine basins through partically timbered slopes to heavy thickets with downfall.

Our camp is located at the edge of a large Alpine meadow at the base of Leota Peak. We often times glass elk and deer in the mountain meadows surrounding our camp. The heart of our camp is the kitchen tent where wholesome family style meals are served. The coffee is always on and you will never leave the table hungry. Sleeping tents are equipped with stove, cots, Coleman lights and covered floors.

QUALITY FISHING, for all levels beginner to expert, is available in nearby lakes, streams, and rivers. Those accessible by vehicle include Cottonwood Lakes, Upsata Lake, Monture Creek, Cottonwood Creek, Trail Creek, Morrell Creek, and the Blackfoot River. There are also several quality alpine lakes available by horseback. Enjoy fishing for cutthroat, rainbow, brookies, browns, and bass.

THE BOB MARSHALL WILDERNESS is a Special Place set aside by congress in 1964 to remain forever wild. It is a mountainout area of over one million acres lying along the continental divide in the heart of Western Montana. It contains the valleys, lakes and streams that make up the headwaters of several rivers including the South Fork of the Flathead River. Elevations vary from 4,000 to 9,000 feet. The landscape consists of rocky peaks, timbered mountains, grassy meadows, and clear water that is inhabited by an abundance of wildlife and fish. With over a thousand miles of trails there are many natural wonders to see and explore in this unspoiled wilderness area.

WE HOST TOUR TYPE TRIPS and travel by horseback, taking our food and camping gear on pack animals. Generally, we move camp every other day and lay-over to fish or explore the days in between. Camp is made up of a kitchen shelter where wholesome family style meals are prepared and served. Teepee style tents with floors are provided for your sleeping comfort and privacy.

OUR MOUNTAIN HORSES are the pride of our operation. Our tack and equipment is clean and well maintained. Each guest is fitted to their own saddle and mounted on a horse suited to their ability. Saddle bags are provided for any extra personal gear. The special bond that develops between you and your horse will leave lasting memories.
