Plummers Lodges

Walleye are literally caught everywhere in Long Lake. From the river, from bays, on sandbars, rock ledges and even suspended at times. The walleye get more plentiful and larger as the summer goes on. You can be catching walleye within minutes of getting into your boat.

In July and August the walleye are everywhere and of every size. You can catch them in bays, fast water, river current, creek mouths, etc. Many of these walleyes are in the 5 to 8 pound range. The walleye fishing in Long Lake is most impressive -- second to none.

The bays of Long Lake are excellent for large northern pike in excess of 20 pounds. In the early season (late May and early June) you can literally catch large northerns from morning til evening if your arms can take it.

The northerns like to lay in the shallows and in the weeds in wait of their prey. There is nothing like the experience of a 20 pound northern attacking your bait. You are in for the fight of your life.

The fly fishermen are having lots of fun with the northerns while taking a break from the brook trout.

Lake trout are caught early in the season (late May and early June) in 15 to 20 feet of water, on sand bars and shore lines. The lake trout in Long Lake are often 25 pounds plus. It is an experience of a life time to hook onto one of these lunkers.

Lake trout often hunt the shallow waters in the spring, fall and winter but go deep into the colder waters in the summer.

Lake trout can be taken with live bait or artificial. They can be fished through the ice, caught in open water by soaking, vertical jigging or trolling. In mid summer you must get down where they are by weights, bottom bouncers or down riggers.

There is nothing like the excitement of reeling in a lunker lake trout from the depths of the cold water in the summer. Their strength is incomparable to any other species.

The brook trout fishing is excellent in the river and a few bays in the main lake. They are aggressive fish, and will hit almost anything.

In cases of higher water levels they will move up further into the creeks and come back into the river and lake in lower water conditions.

2 to 3 pound brook trout are common and we have caught brookies in the 7 and 8 pound range.

Brookies tend to move in and out of holes in the river. One day it will be full of brook trout and the next day it will have walleye feeding there. (I have personally caught over 25 brook trout in the 2 to 3 pound range in one hole!)

Long Lake stretches from our location North to Highway 11. It is approximately 50 miles long, although quite narrow. It is large enough to keep the most adventurous interests and narrow enough for the less experienced to navigate.

Long Lake is well known for its trophy northern. It also has walleye, lake trout, whitefish and wild trophy brook trout.

South of the lodge there is approximately 20 miles of river before any obstructions.

Long Lake is surrounded by hundreds of smaller lakes that have seldom seen any anglers. We keep boats on smaller lakes that are teaming with northerns, walleye, lake trout and brook trout. Some of these lakes are drive-to, some are accessed with quads and some you can walk to, all close to the lodge.

Our bear hunts are fully guided. When bear hunting with us, we will provide you with your accommodations and three meals per day in our dining room. Your hunt includes your license and tag, an active, pre-baited stands, tracking and retrieval, skinning and freezing.

Our bear management area is over 2,000 square kilometers in size. This extra large BMA produces an abundance of high quality bears. As in the past, we took some big bruins again this year, several over 500 pounds.

Our hunts are designed for the serious hunter. These wild animals are intelligent with a keen sense of sight and smell. Reducing movement and eliminating human scent will definitely increase your odds of success.

This majestic animal is a real trophy. An adult moose stands about 7' at the shoulder with the body being about 7' long and 3 to 4 feet deep. A mature bull weighs 1200 to 1600 pounds with many racks in the 50 to 60" range.

We sell our moose hunts as unguided, but we will give each hunter as much assistance as possible. We have several methods of hunting this majestic animal that have proven very successful. Calling bulls from the ground or tree stands is very effective, tree stands over scrapes and commonly used trails. We also hunt along lake shores, swamps, fresh timber cuts, etc. With the area’s rugged terrain and many water ways, it is excellent moose habitat.

The combination of excellent food supply and limited access has produced a great number of very large moose. Moose hunting is not an easy hunt. It involves a great deal of patience, standing and walking.

We offer our white tail hunts from Dryden, Ontario. The white tail season is after the bear and moose seasons are finished. Dryden is an excellent area of trophy white tails. Many refer to it as the best kept white tail secret.

While hunting white tails with us in Dryden, your accommodations will be at one of Dryden’s quality motels. We will provide our customers with a list of names and phone numbers of motels in the area, in order that they can make reservations in advance.

We hunt large areas of land consisting of some private land and some crown land. We continue to feed the white tails right through the winter to insure a healthy population.
