At the young age of 4 years, in the company of his father, Dwayne D'Andrea was initiated into sports fishing. With a simple beginning on the Arrow Lakes in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia, he saw lures and gang trolls graduate to a spinning rod, bobber and fly, and the next step was fly fishing gear only. Dwayne's passion for the sport led him into a way of life - fishing the "Mighty Columbia River", in Castlegar B.C.'s Kootenay Country.
Through the influence and guidance of other local fly fishers, years of fishing this great Columbia River have led to an obsession with the people and the sport of fly fishing. This knowledge gained from others and from personal experience inspired Dwayne to share his skill and love of the sport…Thus, the idea of a guide service took hold of him.
Since those early days, Dwayne has expanded his horizons and brings to his guide service the expertise and knowledge of a true outdoors man. Skilled at fly tying and rod building, he has instructed classes in these arts at the local Selkirk Community College. Dry land fly casting demonstrations and writing the occasional fishing article for the local newspaper add to his qualifications as a professional, local expert on the sport of fly fishing.
The West Kootenay region of British Columbia is located directly above Washington & Idaho. The climate here is generally mild in the early spring and late fall and is hot and sunny during the summer months of July & August.
The City of Castlegar is home to Mountain Valley Sports Fishing & Tours and is also convieniently located near the only commercially serviced airport in the region. Check with Mountain Valley Sports Fishing & Tours for further information on available flights and accomodations.
The Mighty Columbia River is where you want to be to hone your skills as an avid fly fishing sportsman. Mountain Valley Sportsfishing guides will take you to new heights with your skill and enthusiasm for fishing. Be prepared for fast moving, big water that is wide, powerful and deep. It presents a challenge for long distance casting with big fish rewards. Test your accuracy, presentation and technique and cast over hundreds of large rainbows.
