North Star Resort on Knee Lake is located 400 miles north of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The lake is 45 miles long with widths of up to 5 miles and is made up of numerous islands, bays, and reefs which create an ideal structure for producing the finest fishing anywhere. Centrally located on a peninsula of Knee Lake, the resort offers fishing enthusiasts boat access to over 50,000 acres of virgin water, abounding with trophy pike and feisty walleye.
North Star Resort on Knee Lake, which is the only lodge on Knee Lake, is located on a picturesque peninsula among birch, poplar and pine trees.
Built with the comfort of our guests in mind, North Star Resort on Knee Lake features 15 luxurious and spacious one, two and three bedroom log cabins. Every cabin has a breathtaking lakeview, screened-in porch, wood burning fireplace, and comes equipped with electric heat, comfortable 54" beds with cozy comforters and modern bathrooms.
Overlooking pristine Knee Lake, the main lodge facility boasts over 8,700 square feet of spectacular log construction. It comes complete with a separate conference room for private meetings, two fireplaces, dining room, lounge, wet bar and one of the best equipped kitchens in the north.
NORTHERN PIKE:
Also called the jackfish, snake, gator, or river wolf, these legendary fish have plenty of power and are fierce fighters that will hit almost any kind of lure. Lurking in the shallow water weeds, they are voracious predators who will eat other large fish, frogs, mice, water birds and even a muskrat or two.
Lures - Almost anything goes at Knee Lake Resort. Past successes were achieved using Ruby Eyes, Doctor Spoons, Large Silver Minnows (especially with a trailer, usually white), Five of Diamonds, Large Red Devils, Bucktails, Mepps Spinners- all sizes, One-Eyed Wigglers (especially hammered brass for cloudy days and silver for sunny days). Large plugs and jointed plugs are very effective especially the AC Plugs that you can purchase at the Resort's tackle store. Buzz baits provide a dynamic shallow water presentation.
WALLEYE:
Also called Pickerel, this is one of the best tasting of all freshwater fish for the shore lunch frying pan or gourmet cuisine. Walleye tend to gather in large schools in specific formations and prefer the deep and cooler water. But once you find the spot, both artificial lures and natural baits are effective
Lures - Early in the season a jig is your best bet. Plastic grubs in various colors trigger strikes. I prefer to start with a white double tailed grub. Latter in the season as the temperature changes larger jigs, small spoons, crank baits such as Rapalas, can work wonders. For those bathwater days of summer, walleye vacate the shallows relocating on deeper humps and rock bars so using a bottom-bouncer with a spinner will produce some hefty Walleyes. A crawler or plastic worm at least six inches in length has been extremely effective.
CATCH AND RELEASE
Manitoba is a world leader in progressive fish management, with aggressive catch-and-release programs and legislated mandatory use of barbless hooks. In fact, barbless hooks are mandatory throughout the province, for all species of fish. More than 75 percent of the trophy fish caught and recorded in the Master Angler program are released to fight again. A tape measure and camera are standard equipment at Knee Lake Resort.
