Plummers Lodges

Could be the most sought after fish to catch, fight, land, and eat. One of the toughest to catch, but also one of the most flamboyant when hooked. Its no wonder that anglers here in Washington will fish steelhead in rain, snow, wind, freezing cold water, it makes no difference. When the "bite" is on its time to fish. Whether free drifting, flipping spoons, back trolling plugs, or trying something new and different, we here at J & L put you on the fish.

January, February, and March we target winter steelhead. We target the run on the Cowlitz but not limited to that river. With fish running in the 5 to 15 pound range its time for some great fishing. June and July brings warm summer days and more "steelies" to be caught. Summer fish tend to be more aggressive and acrobatic than their winter brothers. Set the hook and watch one tail walk then take off up stream, down stream, under the boat and tail walk again. When finally netted and brought on board, its time to hold it up proudly and take that picture you want to show everyone. Come November and December, it's time for the start of winter runs again. There is also a Coho or two that show up also, so a limit of both is not out of the question.

USING ONLY THE BEST RODS, REELS, TACKLE, AND BAITS. WE HERE AT J & L WILL DO ALL THAT IT TAKES TO PUT YOU ON THE FISH. Typical days fishing for sturgeon allow for multiple hook ups with limits of sturgeon for everyone NOT UNCOMMON. Sturgeon are becoming known for their awesome fighting ability and their delicious taste. With a stable and healthy population of sturgeon, we can help you fulfill your fishing dreams!

A Shaker is any sturgeon under 42" in length, and must be released unharmed when caught. It is called a shaker because the fish will vigorously shake the rod when it is on the line. The faster the vibration on the rod, the smaller the sturgeon.

A Keeper is a sturgeon between 42" and 60" in length. This fish may be retained when caught. The Keeper is easily distinguished because it shakes the rod somewhat slowly and will run hard taking line off the reel at least for a few seconds.

If you fish for the White Sturgeon long enough, you will encounter the Peeler. This is a fish that will spool the reel and the fight can last up to an hour or more. Peelers are not for the fainthearted, as handing off the rod back an forth is a requirement. These fish range from 5 to 12 feet in length and weigh up to 450 pounds. All oversize sturgeon must be released unharmed.

Here in Washington Chinook is King. From late April through May its spring Chinook time. Also known as "springers", we target the Lewis river but not necessarily limited to. With fish ranging from 15 to 25 pounds and 30+ trophy fish being caught every year, these chrome bright beauties hit the hook hard and fight, fight, fight. Light tackle provides a test for the angler and a feel for the fight.

Come August its off to Buoy 10 and the Columbia river. These fish come a bit bigger with 40+ pounders being landed. Trolling is the show here. When one hits its time to set the hook and the fight is on.

Now we near the end of the year, but not the end of the fishing. November and December bring out the Silvers. Caught on light tackle, what a thrill. These fish in the 5 to 10 pound range make for some great smoked snacks around the fire.
