Dog Lake is part of a chain of lakes that extends north from Lake Superior. At 14,000 sq. acres and reaching a maximum depth of 250 feet. There is a rich history of Native settlements and the lake was used by the" Courier Dubois" as a way of transporting furs to trading posts scattered around the region hundreds of years ago. You can even still find native pictograph drawings around the lake that can be up to several thousand years old.
The north end of the lake (Lochalsh Bay) where we are located, has a maximum depth of 80 feet, not far from the lodge and there you can find a healthy population Lake Trout. There are also many Shallow bays and inlets where you can try your hand at the many Walleye and Pike Towards the south end of the Lake You can find large stretches of deep water that are full of native Lake Trout and is popular spot for down rigging later in the summer.
This area is FANTASTIC for BLACK BEAR and our program is designed to utilize the natural setting. Game is drawn in from the adjacent Chapleau Game Preserve (the worlds largest) as well as the surrounding wilderness. We bait heavily and special attention is given to location of stands. They are generally placed in good cover with a narrow sight line for shooting. A sack of brown sugar and another of ripe meat has proven very effective in attracting the bear. Our goal is to have an active bait for each Hunter. In addition to the ground blinds, nine permanent tree stands are available. Bow hunters are welcome and your portable units can be placed on most of our baits.
