Foggy Mountain Guide Service also knows and respects the black bear as a trophy game animal. Powerful and crafty, the bear's trademarks are strength and endurance. Their nose is as sensitive as the most sophisticated radar system. Their feed and travel patterns through our thick firs and dense bogs make our bears a challenging animal to hunt.
Foggy Mountain Guide Service has positioned our baits, stands, and ground blinds after careful study of prevailing winds, terrain, and game patterns. We use pre-built, permanent stands, portables and ground blinds with all obstructing branches and brush cleared from your line of fire. Our stands are 11 to 15 feet from the ground and offer bowhunters an average shot of 18 yards. Rifle hunters will shoot at distances of 75 yards or less, and hand gunners will be shooting 20-30 yards.
Remember, even at these close ranges the black bear demands shooting excellence before he will fall to a hunter. Your target is a 5" square (boiler room) area just behind the front shoulder. Bow-hunters, it makes no difference how good a shot you are-unless you hit a bear exactly in the boiler room with the arrow heading towards the bear's head, you will get nothing but a wounded bear.
The black bear is unlike any other game animal you have ever hunted. When hit, a bear wilt not tie down and bleed out like a deer. But rather, will run until he dies-which could be up to 20 miles. Therefore, a precision shot is essential.
Maine Bear Hunting:
Foggy Mountain Guide Service hunts fall bear in Maine over bait the month of September. Per acre of habitat, Maine has one of thee heaviest concentrations of black bear in North America and offers perhaps the most beautiful country in the world for fall hunting. Our productivity from our blinds and tree stands over bait has been outstanding with record kills year in and year out.
You will be surrounded by an explosion of color in the fall foliage and you will never be too far from a delicious Maine lobster dinner. There is nothing quite like our fall hunting in Maine. Handguns are legal and your hunting license is your permit. In order to purchase a Maine hunting license you will be required to show a previous hunting license from your home state or province. A hunter safety certificate would also be sufficient.

Ontario Bear Hunting:
Fall bear hunting in our boiling bear habitat in NW Ontario is extremely productive using our proven baiting methods and our carefully postioned stands and blinds. There is ample oppurtunity to both bear hunt and fish. Experience the most awesome pike, walleye and trout fishing imaginable.
No handguns are allowed in Canada, and you will be required to show a previous hunting license from your home state or province in order to obtain an Ontario license. Please note that crossbows are legal in Ontario, as well.
