At our secluded Canadian wilderness vacation lodge and resort in Ontario Canada and enjoy great walleye fishing and northern pike fishing, wildlife viewing, bird watching, wilderness adventure tours and travel and just plain relaxing. Our remote Canadian resort and lodge, has very comfortable accommodations and great meals. We are accessible by the Algoma Central Railway's wilderness passenger train or by float plane. Wilderness Island Resort is a perfect place for an exciting family holiday in the wilderness, Canadaian fishing vacation adventure with friends, romantic getaway, refreshing nature retreat, or just quietly relaxing away from civilization.
We are on a remote island on Lake Wabatongushi in Northern Ontario Canada, a 10,000 acre/3,000 hectare lake with great fishing for Walleye and Northern Pike, in the South West corner of the Chapleau Game Preserve, a 3,000 square mile/7,000 square kilometer wildlife sanctuary with abundant opportunities to see moose, black bear, loons, bald eagles and many boreal forest birds. Our housekeeping, housekeeping with dinners, and American plan packages are provided complete with wood fishing boats and electric start outboard motors, and full use of the resort facilities such as canoes and kayaks, swimming areas, nature trails etc.
We also package a 2 day wilderness train tour featuring Agawa Canyon, an overnight stay at our resort, and pontoon boat tours for wildlife photography and nature viewing.
Canada is relaxing, comfortable and easy at our secluded island vacation lodge and resort in the remote Canadian wilderness of Northern Ontario Canada. Lake Wabatongushi is a prolific Walleye and Northern Pike fishing lake with an abundance of great fishing habitat. Catching shore lunch or your fish dinner is relatively easy and you have the added bonus of numerous opportunities to see and photograph wildlife such as Moose, Black Bear, Loons and Bald Eagles.
Wabatongushi Lake is a relatively shallow and friendly fishing lake for Northern Ontario Canada with an average depth of 17'. It's 10,000 acre area contains an abundance of varied fish structure such as rocky reefs, sandbars and weed beds allowing easy fishing for Walleye, Northern Pike and Perch. The extensive shallow bays are ideal fish spawning areas for northern pike while the many rocky reefs and 27 rivers and streams make optimum walleye fish spawning areas.
The best months to fish for Walleye are May, followed by June then September. The water is cooler in the spring and late summer making the walleyes more aggressive. Fishing first thing in the spring the Walleyes fishing tends to be best the river mouths and relatively shallow shoals, usually less than 15' of water. During the summer months the walleye fishing tend to be a little lazier but there is still no problem catching plenty of fish. A lot of the summer Walleyes are in the deep edges of the weed beds. In the fall the walleyes go a little deeper although we still mostly catch walleyes in less than 25' of water.
The best months to fish for Northern Pike are July and August followed by September. Fishing the abundant weed beds are up produces lots of Northern Pike fishing action in July and August and the Northern Pike are looking for food to grow. A great idea is to take breaks to enjoy our great Jumbo Perch fishing in the seed beds as well. May and June the Northern Pike are hungry but there are no weed beds to concentrate their population. During the summer we have a lot of fun with surface and shallow water baits. Fly fishing for Northern Pike over the weed beds with with long streamers or bunny bugs is a blast. In the spring and fall trolling with the deeper running lartge plugs tend to be a better fishing technique for Northern Pike.
