Welcome to Birch Point Outfitters. Let us guide you through the Manitoba wilderness for a hunting trip of a life-time. We specialize in Spring and Fall Black Bear hunts with Chocolate, Blonde and Cinnamon Black Bears available. You get all this adventure while you enjoy our luxury housekeeping cabins which are full of modern conveniences. We also have one of the best hunts in the country for Canada Goose and White (Snow) Goose.

Fish the world famous lakes and rivers of Manitoba for trophy Northern Pike, Walleye and Smallmouth Bass. 20+ pound world-class Channel Cats are also available.

Walleye Fishing - Birch Point Outfitters lakes have lots of Walleyes which is the first choice fish for eating. Our lakes and rivers are clean and healthy with a dense food chain thus producing large numbers and good size Walleyes. The limit for Walleye is 6 with a sport license and 4 with a conservation license.

Northern Pike Fishing - Manitoba is world famous for big trophy Northern Pike. Nowhere else in Canada do you have a better chance to catch a 20+ pound Northern. The limit for Northern Pike is 6 with a sport license and 4 with a conservation license.

Catfish Fishing - Manitoba area lakes and the Red River are world famous for the unbelievable and monster size Channel Cats. It's easy to catch 20+ pound Channel Cats which is why more fishing television shows are taped here then anywhere else. The limit for Channel Cats is 4 with a sport license and 1 with a conservation license.

Smallmouth Bass Fishing - Smallmouth Bass are very common and reach up to the 5 and 6 pound range. You basically find the best Smallmouth fishing off rocky shoals and points. The limit for Smallmouth Bass is 4 with a sport license and 2 with a conservation license.

Spring Black Bear Hunting:

Manitoba is one of the last places in Canada where baiting for bears has not been outlawed. We have a high population of Black Bears with Chocolate, Blonde or Cinnamon Black Bears available. We do have Fall bear hunting but we try to convince our customers to hunt in the Spring. Spring, being the off season, is the ideal time to get back in the woods after a long winter. In the spring, the bears have a rich and thick coat which makes for a nice mount. This is one reason why many hunters prefer to hunt in the spring. Hunters should carefully observe any bear for an extended period of time to ensure that it's not a female with cubs. Female bears tend to stay near the cubs making it easier to tell the difference between male and female bears. Female bears are usually smaller and less bulky in appearance then male bears. The ears on female bears appear to be large and close together and the head seems to be narrow with a pointy nose. The ears of a mature male bear appear to be small and set wide apart and the head is more massive in shape with a blocky snout.

Taking the older males drastically improves the mortality rate of young bears as the older males kill more bears than all hunters combined. This increases the population and creates a healthier gene pool among the bear population. We offer a one week hunt for bears (Sunday to Saturday). Bear hunting season opens the end of April and runs until mid June. Fall season runs from the end of August to the first week of October. Temperatures can be in the 90's during the day and fall to the low 40's in the evenings. No more than four bear hunters per week. Limited amount of tags available so booking early is advised.

Bows must have a minimum 40 pound draw weight and a broadhead that is not less then 7/8 of an inch in width. Rifle hunters should use a 270 or larger caliber. Wolves can be hunted with an unused big game license during big game season.

The bear hunt is located at the south-east corner of Manitoba in Big Game Hunting Area #35. Whitemouth Lake is the southern boundary and Whitemouth River is the eastern boundary. The hunting area is located within Sandilands Provincial Park and Northwest Angle Provincial Forest which makes ideal habitat for large trophy bears.

Portable tree stands are used during the bear season. They are placed 10 - 12 feet above the ground and about 15 yards from the bait site for bow hunters and 50 - 75 yards for rifle hunters. Ground blinds can be set up with advance notice. Hunting will take place during the more productive evening hours.
