AT SOUTH SHORE LODGE, we feel that our remote location is a real plus for making your vacation trip a special adventure. To the east, west and south lie vast stretches of road less wilderness and lakes containing no civilization other than an occasional winter trapper's cabin. To our north, it's over 25 miles by boat or plane to the town of Vermilion Bay. Nature at its rugged finest begins at our back door.
We picked South Shore as the camp that we wanted to own and operate because of its unique setting and because it is on Eagle Lake. We enjoy catching BIG fish and Eagle has them. The lake holds a special attraction for experienced muskie fishermen. They know that it has produced 60 pound trophies and has, in the past, held the Worlds Record for muskie. Your hosts thoroughly enjoy seeing the beginning fisherman connect with his or her first MUSKIE ever
Here, the WALLEYE fisherman might well find the lunker he's always wanted to have mounted, to enjoy for a lifetime. Each season seems to produce a few monster walleyes close to the 13 pound class. Many others of prize-winning size are caught regularly by our guests. NORTHERN PIKE are prolific in Eagle Lake. They act eager to attack any bait you're using and they don't seem to care whether you are a beginner or expert. 25 pound pike are not common here, (we think the 100 pound muskies probably eat them) but fish of half that size are taken regularly, with many each year in the 15 to 20 pound range. SMALLMOUTH BASS and LAKE TROUT also inhabit our water, providing each fisherman the opportunity to pursue his own specialty.
